Sleek Review: Newly Released Pout Paints

Mauve Over, Peek-A-Boo, Pin Up, Cloud 9

A few days ago I received four of the newly released Pout Paints by Sleek, an apparent alternative to OCC Lip Tars. I can't comment as I've never tried the Lip Tars before. The colours of Pout Paint I received were Mauve Over, Peek-A-Boo, Cloud 9 and Pin Up- all pretty unwearable shades unless mixed. I would have preferred to have Minx or Milkshake to try as they look wearable from day to day on their own, skipping the mixing session. Peek-A-Boo is a bright blue used for warming your shades, and Cloud 9 is for cooling them; but I think I'll be running out of Cloud 9 the quickest as I prefer lighter shades.

As for the actual texture/longevity/look of these paints.. They are quite easy to mix and dry to a lipstick finish on the lips which is great as I prefer lipsticks (unless you count Pout Polishes, love them). As for the staying power of these little tubes I find it really hard to get them off, so don't get them on your hand or any other possible area you may need to show. Sudocrem works decently at removing stains on the back of your hand, but I have been mixing them on a plate with a cotton bud. It's the easiest way to avoid mess! They stay just as long on your lips too, so are great for a night out or a shoot.

Onto the mixing, it's time to welcome the plate and the cotton buds! There are so many possible combinations, so if you find a shade you like you can just pop it in a little tub and keep it for later as you probably won't be able to make that exact shade again. Gone are the days where we all need thousands of different lipsticks in different shades; you would only need 4-5 of these. I would say this can get quite tedious mixing the shades each day, but it's very creative..

I really like the idea behind these and will be picking up Minx or Milkshake when I next drop by Superdrug. I don't think I will use them every day however, but they're a good thing to have in your collection. Thumbs up Sleek, you did good!

What do you think of the Pout Paints?

Products mentioned were sent to review (not the plate or cotton buds!), but as always my review is 100% honest.

  1. I really like the idea of these, although I think you would need a few before you really felt the purpose of them xx

  4. @ScienceGeek: Haha, I know. PR girls are slipping now-a-days ;) It's a funny thing, I don't find them drying on your lips if you have enough of the paint on there but then if you only have a tiny bit (as a lip stain) they're really drying. I don't have a clue why! xx

  5. I was never sure about them when I read about them, and I had a play around with one in the store... I don't think they're for me somehow...

  6. I think they look gorgeous :) I love the fact they are meant to be mixed. The only thing i am worried about is the fact they are hard to take off :/ xx

  7. I've seen these in Superdrug and am tempted by them, however the idea of mixing them doesn't seem to be too convenient if you were out or something like that. The shades you mixed are lovely though! xx

  8. I always wanted the OCC lip tars so am really interested in these as they're much more affordable...especially as superdrug are currently doing 3 for 2! I think I'll pick up pin up, peek a bloo and cloud 9.

  13. I think these sound amazing! I guess you're meant to put a nice colour you've mixed into a little pot and keep it? But like you say it'd be hard to recreate the exact same shade twice.

Love the pics of your palette!

  15. I'm going to go try these! Although i have tried the OCC lip tars and was less than impressed at the mess they make! They are good for adding to your lipgloss / lipstick to create your own shades but as a formulator I find it hard to accept them as a real product in their own right considering they are just pure pigments in castor oil and nothing else but I know that's just me since everyone else seems to luv them! lol

  16. I know what you mean that maybe these aren't for every day because of the mixing but to me it looks like so much fun. I can see me getting these and lots of little pots to put my creations in! I think I'll have trouble choosing from all the shades though! xx
